Japanese Car Auction Sheet Explanation
Auction sheets are made for buying used cars from Japan and are often the first point of inspection when considering a used car for purchase. They are created by professional inspectors employed by the auction house and offer an overview of the condition and history with basic information of the car. Auction sheet is usually written in Japanese language. There are many useful information depicted in the auction sheet;

Such as-
1. Chassis number-Chassis Number is also known as a vehicle’s identification number.
2. First registration date of the vehicle in Japan, which is clearly written in the auction sheet. Date of Production (DOP) of the vehicle may be different from the date written in the auction sheet. Thus to know more about the vehicle DOP you need to ask your dealer or verify it from authentic sources.

3. Mileage- How much kilometers the vehicle ran in Japan.

 
4. Grading of the vehicle:

Auction inspectors are keen to provide the actual condition of the vehicle to you so that purchasing a car without seeing it physically can be possible and easy. Therefore, they put marks on the auction sheet starts from A to E based on the vehicle condition. Please check the details as follows:  

Interior Grading:

  • A – Brand New Condition
  • B – Almost like a brand new condition which is actually signify the car is in good condition, i.e. the interior looks nice and tidy.
  • C – Inside the car could have few stains or marks
  • D – Inner vehicle may have cigarette’s mark, stains, tears or even bad smell.
  • E – Interior of the car is terrible. Grade E means all mentioned above and even worse.

Exterior Grading:

  • A – Represent an excellent and brand new exterior condition.
  • B – Could have some negligible scratches.
  • C – Signify vehicle with few scratches and dents.
  • D – Define visible scratches, dents, paint mark and rust or even corrosion.
  • E – Exterior of the car is terrible. Grade E means all mentioned above and even worse.

Based on these Interior and Exterior Grading, A number or point is provided on the face of the auction sheet to have a quick understanding of the overall condition and blemishes of the vehicle. Auction point or grade starts from S/6. Please check the details with brief explanation of each point.

  • S/6 – Brand New Condition. On some auction pages, you may found a few almost invisible scratches.
  • 5 – Signify this used car is in the excellent condition. On the body there may be a few small scratches also may appear the little dents.
  • 4.5 – Still high demandable vehicle, may be some scratches or dents and a little chance to find a car with the repair marks or changed body parts.
  • 4 – The car has not been in the accident. May occur visible scratches, in the interior may be found tears, cigarette holes or stains.
  • 3.5 – Define car where you could find noticeable scratches, dents, rust or corrosion (rare). Inside the vehicle often appear tears, cigarette holes, stains.
  • 3 – Indicate cars with visible huge scratches, dents, paint stains, rust and corrosion. Interior full of tears, cigarette holes or food stains.
  • 2 – Usually means lots of rust and corrosion, but may be found all kind of breakdowns. Generally, signify that the vehicle is in the terrible condition due to some natural or manmade calamities.
  • 1 – As a rule flooded vehicles.
  • RA/RB – Car has been fixed or repaired completely after an ordinary car crash.
  • R – R reflects many issues such as accidental history, heavy repairmen, and modification. This car may be repaired but probably need more fixing.
  •  (99, x, etc.) – This vehicle has been in an accident or has some serious engine trouble and was not fixed. That is immovable in some cases.

Few useful abbreviation could be found on the Auction Sheet:

  • AAC – Climate Control Air Conditioner
  • AC – Air Conditioner
  • SRS – SRS Airbag
  • AW –Alloy Wheels
  • F5 – 5 Speed Manual Transmission
  • F6 – 6 Speed Manual Transmission
  • FA/AT – Automatic Transmission
  • KAWA – Leather seats
  • NAVI – Navigator
  • PS – Power Steering
  • PW – Power Windows
  • SR – Sunroof
  • TV – Television
  • ABS-Anti Lock braking Systems
  • TRC-Traction Control

Few signs that are appeared on the car diagram of a Japanese used car auction sheet for the exterior (the Number near the letter in the Auction List means how strong the breakdown is):

  • A – Scratch
  • E – Dimple
  • U – Dent
  • W – Repair Mark
  • S – Place with Rust
  • C – Place with Corrosion
  • P – Paint blemish
  • H - Paint dissolved
  • X – Body part required to be replaced (has no number, located on the chassis)
  • X – Cleavage on the Window (Usually with the number, located on the windows)
  • XX – Body part has been replaced
  • B – Dent and scratch
  • Y – Crack or Hole
  • R – Repaired Cleavage on the Window
  • RX – Repaired Cleavage on the Window (needs to be replaced)
  • G – Stone chip in the glass

You may found some other points that are written on the face of the auction sheet like: seller’s comment, inspector’s note, use of the vehicle, color code of the vehicle, number of doors, number of seats, vehicle name and package, features and options of the vehicle, displacement etc. Please note that, an auction sheet will never give you the indication or signal of the vehicle health status and intensity of the blemishes. You should check and analyze it before buying the vehicle.
